Newborns with their parents, tell me what could be a better picture? I have been blessed to photograph some incredibly beautiful babies in the past four years, but I think my all-time favorite images are the ones of these sweet newborn babies with their parents. To be able to capture raw, true, pure love has been one of the best parts of being a newborn photographer. So, today I am going to share some of my favorites photographs (and I have many, many favorites, but these were the ones that jumped out at me today!) of Des Moines families with their newborns.
This image of Cameron is one of my all-time favorite newborn pictures, and it proudly displayed in a giant canvas in my studio. Cameron was a bit of a peanut, at just five and a half pounds, so he fit snuggly in his daddy’s hands. I find many parents resistant to parent pictures with their newborn, but there is always a way to incorporate the love of parents in a newborn picture, even if just daddy’s hands are showing! As always, this image was taken with the safety as my top priority. If you’d like to learn more about how I posed this image, please comment below!
This image of Julianna with her mommy and daddy is another one that I just adore. Obviously, her mommy is stunning and her daddy is handsome, but that is not what I love about this picture. I love that Daddy, Mommy, and Baby are so clearly connected in their love. I get to be a witness to the love of parents blossoming for one another with the birth of their first child. Their baby connects them and strengthens their love. Capturing this love for families has been something I am very humbled and thankful to get to do.
This is one of my dearest photographer friends, Tara, with her handsome new baby, Jax. She already had taken many gorgeous images of her son herself, but visited me so that we could capture pictures of the two of them together. There are two things that strike me about this picture. First, the genuine joy and excitement in Tara’s eyes. Second, the look that Jax is giving me. He is wide awake but content in his momma’s arms. The love between a mother and son is definitely something I can relate to (my son, Nile, has my heart) and I can honestly say if I could go back in time and capture an image like this of Nile and me when he as brand new I would in a heartbeat. I know Tara treasures this image of her and her baby when he was brand new. I am thankful that I was able to capture this beautiful mommy and son picture.
This picture of Tyler and Reece is near the top of my list of favorites for daddy and newborn pictures. Reece is so comfortable and sleepy in his daddy’s hands, and the look of pride in Tyler’s eyes just blows me away. Every time I look at this image I see a father’s love just shining through the portrait. I think the loveliest newborn and daddy shots are the simple, pure shots that capture the new love.
Last but not least, this image of Damon and his two boys is one that is a personal favorite of mine for many reasons. First, I have known Nix and Nels’ parents since we were just kids. Second, their mommy overcame incredible medical obstacles to bring them into the world, and is still fighting for her health so that she may see them grow up. When I originally posted this image, she texted me immediately telling me how much she loved it and how much it meant to her. As a photographer there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your image loved and adored. This is an image I will look back on years from now and always feel pride.
I am so blessed to get to capture this brand new true love.
